This turkey season delivered big gobbles, tough lessons, and serious gear tests. Some products impressed, others depend on your style of hunting. Catch the highlights and see what reviews are coming next — you won’t want to miss it.
As the final echoes of gobbles fade from the timber and the last spent shells hit the dirt, we’re reflecting on what turned out to be one of the most unpredictable, humbling, and downright exciting turkey seasons we’ve had in a long time. Whether you punched every tag or walked away with nothing but memories and mosquito bites, one thing’s certain — the woods always have something to teach you.
For us, turkey season is about more than just the hunt. It’s the perfect proving ground for testing gear where it matters most: in the field, when your pulse is racing, and you have seconds to make the right call. This spring, we examined several new products and old favorites to see what would hold up and what would get left behind. And let’s be honest — a couple of items got left behind.
From pre-dawn setups to long, silent sits under stubborn skies, we put gear, trail cameras, turkey loads, and optics through their paces. Some of the highlights? Several new TSS loads performed great both on the range and in the woods. We tested a couple of new turkey gear haulers, and both turned out to be great in the field for different reasons. Stay tuned for more information, but our full reviews won’t be available until early next year.
Our turkey season recap wouldn't be complete without including the new friends we made along the way. Thank you for all the fun in the woods, back at the truck, and around the breakfast tables!
We were able to get one full hunt on video to be cherished forever. It was an exciting hunt overall and a great time filling Adrian's second Missouri tag. Watch the full hunt on our Hunt This Thing channel.
Of course, no turkey season recap would be complete without a bit of honesty about the birds that got away. There were those textbook mornings where everything clicked, and then there were the gut-punch hunts when all we needed was 10 more yards when a coyote showed up, and the gobbler went the other way. That’s the beauty of chasing longbeards — they’re unpredictable and undoubtedly teach you humility. And every missed opportunity this season was a lesson we’ll carry into the next.
Now, with most turkey seasons coming to a close and the woods feeling the heat of summer, we’re shifting gears and lining up what’s coming next on Review This Thing. Stay tuned because we’ve got a stacked schedule of rifle and ammo accuracy tests (Tikka T3X Lite and Bergara Crest Carbon), thermal scopes, new trail cameras to the channel (Tactacam, Moultrie, Covert, Black Gate, and Spypoint), and a comparison of several well-known binocular harnesses that you need to see.
We also have a couple of travel destination reviews coming soon, like the one we posted this week. We will have several more fishing pictures to accompany those reviews, like tis one from Wisconsin!
A: Absolutely! We can't wait to bring you some great gear and travel destinations.
A: Several videos coming soon from the Tikka T3X lite in 308 that we've already quick looked and a Bergara Crest Carbon in 7mm PRC with several new factory loads that are now available.
A: Yes!! We can't wait for what this fall will bring. Adrian has a crossbow deer hunt planned and we both will be going on a cow elk hunt in Oregon that should provide a lot more content than just elk steaks.
Follow us on all social media channels to stay updated on the action all summer. The next few months are going to be loaded with reviews you won’t want to miss.
Robbie has enjoyed the outdoors since he can remember. His earliest memories include hours upon hours of squirrel hunting and learning how to enjoy all aspects of hunting season in God's wonderful outdoors. Now he is always working hard and testing gear in the field to give you the best review and most thorough information he possibly can.
